Purple Swamphen belongs to a family named Rallidae or Rails. Rails are group of cosmolitan birds ranging from small size to medium size.They are mainly found in wetlands and are seen in places with heavy rainfall, swamps, lake edges and damp pastures. There are 13 or more subspecies of Purple Swamphen. The birds are seen in places such as Iberia, France, Tunisia, Egypt, Madagascar, India, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, New Guinea, Samoa and many more.
