Scaly breasted munia is a sparrow sized estrildid finch, belonging to tropical Asia. It is also called spotted munia or nutmeg mannikin or spice finch. They forage in flocks and feed on grass seeds, berries and small insects. The species has 11 subspecies across their range and slightly differ in size and colour.
It is widely distributed across India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Philippines and is visible in some parts of Puerto Rica, Hispaniola, parts of Australia and USA.
