Pond Heron is a small heron. It breeds in India, Iran, Pakistan, Burma, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. They have a cryptic streaked olive and brown colours on the body, but when they take off, they flash white bright wings in contrast to their colour of the body.
They are usually silent but may give a harsh croak when near their nests. The Indian pond heron feed in marshy wetlands. They usually feed at the edge of ponds. Their primary food includes, aquatic insects, fishes, tadpoles, and sometimes leeches.
