Hoopoe is a colourful bird found across Europe, Asia and North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa and Madagascar. The species is highly distinctive with a long thin tapering bill that is black with a fawn base. They make seasonal movements, sometimes they have been spotted at a high altitude, during migration across the Himalayas.
They feed on insects, small reptiles, frogs and plant matter such as seeds and berries.
